RTÉ may be in for another mass exodus as a third big name has left the station, following news of heavy hitters Claire Byrne and Joe Duffy leaving the broadcaster.
In another blow to RTÉ Radio 1, veteran journalist Mary Wilson is set to retire at the end of September. The Morning Ireland host will present her last show on Wednesday, 24 September.
It is understood that the journalist, who is set to turn 65 this year, had the option to remain hosting the show for another two years thanks to new employment rules, but opted to retire instead.

Mary confirmed that it is entirely her own decision to walk away from the station, adding that it has been 'a real privilege' to work there for so many years.
'I have enjoyed every minute of every hour that I have worked in RTÉ. It has been challenging and it has been fun and it has been wonderful to connect with so many listeners and viewers when I worked on TV,' she told the Sunday Independent.

'I will miss it, but there comes a time to make way, and there is enormous talent within the organisation, and they deserve the opportunity that I have enjoyed.'
Mary explained that nearing 65 years old has given her a fresh perspective and helped her decide to finish up in RTÉ and enjoy her retirement.

'There comes a time when you have to focus the mind, and reaching 65 focused my mind, and I decided the time has come to hang up my broadcasting hat.'
The news comes following confirmation that both Claire Byrne and Joe Duffy. Joe was the first to go in this round of departures, hanging up his mic on Liveline in May.
Meanwhile, Claire just recently announced that she is set to leave RTÉ to go back to her roots at Newstalk at the beginning of 2026.
