David McCullagh is ready to make the move from television to radio, and his pockets will certainly notice the difference!
The RTÉ presenter has revealed the hefty sum of money that he will be earning when he takes over Claire Byrne's radio show gig in November, which will likely secure him a spot in RTÉ's list of top ten earners.
'My salary will be €209,000 a year, plus pension, which will bring the total package to about €240,000, just under €240,000,' David revealed while chatting to Oliver Callan on Radio 1.

'I’m very happy, yes, thank you very much. So, for the first time, I presume I’ll be in the top 10, the list of top 10 [earners],' the presenter explained.
David was revealed as Claire Byrne's replacement after she announced her departure from RTÉ. The journalist will finish up with RTÉ Radio 1 later this year, ahead of her exciting new journey at Newstalk, which will commence in early 2026.

Meanwhile, David, who has been presenting the Six One News since August 2020, is set to hit the airwaves. He has already garnered an impressive resume at the national broadcaster, having presented Prime Time from 2013 until 2020.
The decision to leave RTÉ's flagship show in favour of the new gig wasn't a hard one for the presenter to make. 'It didn’t take much thinking to be honest. I had said I’d be interested; if there were opportunities, I’d be interested in having a conversation.'

While he didn't want to leave the Six One, he knew that Today is 'probably one of the best gigs in Irish media.' Adding: 'When it was offered to me, it didn’t take long to make up my mind.'
David and Claire exchanged texts on Friday, and are planning on meeting for coffee 'one of these days.'
