Camogie has certainly hit the headlines this year, but unfortunately, it was more about its fashion rather than the girls' skills on the pitch.
Taking a stance, camogie players across the country staged a protest to bring an end to the rule that camogie players must wear skorts and not shorts. The debate was finally brought before a special congress at Croke Park in May. Dublin's Aisling Maher was just one of the many to make her voice heard.
A strong believer that more changes, particularly surrounding women's sports, still have to be made, the St Vincent's player understands that while this is important, time away from the game is just as beneficial.

This week, Toyota Ireland announced a three-year partnership with The Camogie Association and the GAA/GPA and Aisling Maher, along with Galway's John Maher, have been chosen as their ambassadors.
The company are looking to invest and support Irish sport, which also includes athletics, para-sport and rugby.
Aisling saw the potential that this could bring, stating how 'Everything that we're doing, especially from a female side at the minute, is trying to move towards that quality integration piece, and I think that fans and sponsors have such a big role to play in that progress as well.'

Off the pitch, Aisling has another major hobby that she and her girlfriend, Laura, love to do, and that is travel - but the couple don't exactly head off to the airport when they want to go on holidays.
Putting it all down to the skills and talent of her girlfriend, she told us, 'I'll blame Laura for this one, she is the camper van lover. She got it before COVID and began the process of converting it. She did a lot of it herself and then got help on the important jobs like cutting the windows.'

'She's got a nice conversion done on it has it all a full mattress, a fridge, a gas hob, a sink and toilet, everything, all lot.'
Admitting that time can be tight with training and games, holidays can often be hard to plan and can be last-minute- this is where their van comes in handy.

For Aisling, Laura is the driving force behind their holidays, making sure they have time together away from the hustle and bustle of life.
'Last year we went over to Paris after the end of the championship ' and the travelling won't stop there as Aisling tells us that Dingle, in Kerry, is next on the list- the perfect getaway before Aisling gets stuck into another season.
