The 25-year-old and his pro dance partner Laura Nolan had been predicted early on as winners of the show and week after week they impressed the judges with their outstanding routines.

They beat stiff competition from the three other DWTS finalists Jack Woolley, Kayleigh Trappe, and Danny O'Carroll but ultimately Rhys and Laura were crowned the winners by the public vote.

Speaking after his win, Rhys was completely lost for words as he was handed the glitterball trophy, saying: 'I don't have any words'.

For their final performances, Rhys and Laura first danced a Spiderman routine to a Charleston which scored them a perfect 40 points, getting 10 from all four judges.

That was followed by an incredible showdance performance to Beautiful Things by Benson Boone, which left judges Karen Byrne and Arthur in tears, and also scored them 40 points.

The Olympian wowed with his gymnast moves, performing flips, cartwheels, and even moves from his pommel horse routine on the dancefloor.

Karen was left in tears, saying: 'Who am I to comment... What a way to finish, that was feckin beautiful' - which prompted an apology from Jennifer Zamparelli to the viewers who were offended by the 'bad language'.

Arthur said: 'It's an honour watching you week after week, your passion and your undeniable talent - you entertain us, inspire us and spoil us, and gave us moments that will always remember. So, thank you.'

Judge Brian Redmond summed it up saying: 'Rhys, you came here tonight to do a job and I've got two words for you - job done!'

Meanwhile, viewers at home were also blown away by their performances, with one writing:'It looks like Rhys and Laura have been dancing together for years!! Off the scale!!'
