For years Pat Shortt and John Kenny had the country laughing at their double act the D'Unbelievables and it looks like the next generation is in for a treat with Pat and his daughter Faye taking to the stage.

Father and daughter teamed up and wrote their first show in 2021 but with the pandemic in full swing, touring was put on hold. However, once it was safe to venture back out again the pair got everyone laughing... something that was needed by all.

2025 is going to be a good year for the duo as they're bringing their show Knuckle Down to the 3Olympia Theatre in March but looking back Faye tells us that her dad's comical side was not always a hit with her, especially when she was a teenager.

Faye reflected on her teenage years with EVOKE and told how Pat took any opportunity to do what dads do best: go to great lengths to embarrass their child.

For fans of the comedian, you may remember one particular character that Pat portrayed, Pa Connors. Dressed up in his character, Pat would drop his daughter to school and make, as they say in the country, 'a holy show of her!'

'Dad drove a van, but now I don't mean like a normal-sized van, this is like an industrial size...  It was a truck and he used to drive up and drop me to school, and he would, of course, just beep the horn,' Faye said. Butting in, Pat added: 'And I'd block the whole road trying to get in and out and reverse!'

Faye isn't Pat's only daughter. Lily, Faye's younger sister, didn't escape her dad's love of laughter and practical jokes.

The proud owner of a vintage MD back in the day, Pat continued: ' I had a little two-seater, a soft top one, I picked Lily up and  I dropped her to the parade in the village.' Pulling into a local hotel, Pat spoke of how one guy had come running out to him waiving frantically.

'I pulled over and the next thing I realised I was leading the whole parade. He thought I was part of the vintage car club and couldn't get out of it.' Causing quite a stir in the town, Pat had half the town following him by accident.

At the end of the day though the role of dad will always come into play no matter what age the girls are.

When heading on the road for gigs, Pat says Faye is not the best when it comes to travelling telling us that: 'When I'd be driving Faye, she'd be getting sick but sometimes late at night when we would be coming down the country roads the window open, she would throw up out the window, and it would blow in on top of me.'

When it's Faye in the driving seat, Pat says his protective dad side comes into play. For the whole journey, he'll be saying: 'I'm going "no no. Slow down, slow down coming up to the bend there. Watch the lights, watch the car in front of you".'

And Faye's response? 'Shut up dad, you are so annoying!'

Pat and Faye's show Knuckle Down is on at the 3Olympia on March 20 and 21 - you won't be disappointed! Click here for tickets.
