2025 got off to a flying start for Ciara Mageean as she announced that her partner of ten years Thomas Moran popped the question to her at Christmas.
The athletics star has spoken about how Thomas has been 'her rock' who has been there for her during the highs and lows of her career.
Keeping her news under wraps until the new year, Ciara spoke to EVOKE about the great lengths that Thomas had gone to to make the occasion extra special.
Speaking at the launch of the 2025 Lidl Ladies National Football League in Croke Park, Ciara said that for nearly a decade Thomas has sacrificed so much for her, setting aside his own needs and training as an athlete himself.
Listening to their engagement story, it shows that he certainly does not do things by halves.
Filling us in on all the details, Ciara said that the proposal had been planned a few times in different locations but as we all know life has a funny way of putting a spanner in the works.
'He bought a ring in Switzerland and was planning on proposing in Switzerland, but I was obviously going through a rough time,' she told EVOKE.
Next, she said Thomas thought Paris would be the perfect time, explaining: 'After the Olympics in Paris, whenever we have a little bit of time together. And then obviously that didn't go to plan. So yeah, the poor lad's been waiting for his opportunity.'
Heading off down the country to spend some time with friends Ciara told us that Thomas was going to try again and had a plan in place.
'He had actually planned out the day. We were going to head out for some food and he had sourced a little spot along the River Shannon, to get down on one knee and then true to Irish weather, it poured.'
At this point, wanting to wait no longer Ciara said: 'He ended up proposing while we were both chilling in front of the Christmas tree,' which the runner said was the perfect spot!
Looking ahead, Ciara said the couple have not had a chance to make any wedding plans as the couple has just bought a house.
Laughing, she says that for now 'we are planning on getting a new boiler and getting a shower shutter in the house, so I suppose those are top of the priority list.'
