He's made his list, he's checked it twice, and by all reports, Santa says the children of Ireland have done well this year!

Father Christmas, Daidí na Nollaig, Saint Nick or whatever it is you like to call him, the big man in red and his elves have been working hard to get kids' Christmas wish lists together, and he'll be going the drop off in just a few hours.

Of course, he'll only be stopping off in places where the children have gone to sleep - something that is quite tricky with excitement levels through the roof - but there are some cool ways to keep track of Santa this evening that might help the little ones head off to the land of nod.

Thanks to a novel new tracking system attached to Rudolph's harness, Google has launched a new version of its system that will follow Santa's sleigh across the world giving an accurate ETA for his Irish deliveries.

Since its launch in 2004, Google's Santa Tracker system has been probably one of the most reliable sources of information about Santa's journey, but this newer version has a host of other features to enjoy.

As well as his exact location at any given time, the system also keeps count of how many presents have been delivered so far and there are also games that can be played while counting down the big man's arrival.

Google worked closely with Head of Operations in the North Pole, Mrs Claus, to ensure the accuracy of the information.

Flight operations in the North Pole were one of the first to devise a tracker, understanding the importance of Santa's visit to homes all around the world.

Their communications have been top class, responding to questions from kids all over the world about their present deliveries - including queries about deliveries to homes with no chimney and for children who may not be celebrating the big day in their own homes.

As Santa himself has been extremely busy, his officials have moved to reassure anyone concerned that Santa can also enter a home through a window, residents just need to mark the point of entry clearly, to save time.

They have also issued a statement to say he has been given an approved list of alternative addresses.

There are other methods to follow Santa as he crosses the globe, including the NORAD tracker and Sky TV, however by downloading the Google tracker, viewers can have handy access to his journey on their phone.
