Two of Dublin's most sought after coastal neighbourhoods, but which to choose?

B-rated properties in swish coastal neighbourhoods, within easy reach of amenities, from €575,000.

The seaside suburbs of Dublin offer ozone-rich air, green and blue spaces, and a sense of being far from the hubbub of the city.

Both Killiney and Malahide are within easy commutes of the city centre via the Dart, the former offering one of the most scenic capital city travel journeys in Europe.

Both homes also have good BER ratings, meaning that the properties qualify for greener mortgage applications.

Address: 34 Castle Court, Killiney Hill Road, Killiney, Co. Dublin, A96 P6D2

Asking price: €595,000

Agent: Sherry FitzGerald

Built in the 1990s, this small development is within an easy walk of the Dart station and the beach at Killiney, via a pedestrian walkway at Bayview, which is directly across the road.

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom detached house needs very little attention.

It has an open plan kitchen, diner and a separate living room spanning the width of the house.

It opens out to its west-facing back garden.

Upstairs, there are three bedrooms as well as a windowed study for those working from home.

The principal is ensuite.

The B2 Ber-rated house, which extends to 102 square metres, has recently fitted energy-efficient windows and doors, solar panels installed on the front and rear roof sections, upgraded attic insulation, and a high-efficiency combination boiler with room-by-room heating controls via an app.

The recent upgrades include a luxurious new family bathroom.

There is car parking with additional visitor car parking at Castle Court.

Address: 3 Castle Oaks, Malahide, Co Dublin, K36T866

Asking price: €575,000

Agent: Sherry FitzGerald

This low-rise development is situated across the road from one of the pedestrian gate entrances to Malahide Castle and Gardens.

Situated on the ground floor, this apartment has been upgraded and offers a lot of space to families with small children.

Extending to 92 square metres, the B3-rated, ground-floor residence, which has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, has an open-plan kitchen cum living room that opens directly out to the property’s communal gardens.

The property has a newly installed kitchen, with fashionably dark cupboard doors, contrasting stone countertops, and LED lighting.

The design is by My Life, which also did the new bathroom.

While the village is about a two-kilometre walk away, you can cut through the park and shave some time off this journey.

It could also be used as a shortcut for older kids of school-going age to catch the Dart – at least during the summer term.

The park opens at 9 am and closes at 5 pm during winter.

The development is bijou and low-rise.
