You have to admire French girl style and beauty, they have all mastered the look of being barely put together but looking effortlessly cool at the same time.

From the tousled hair to the foundation-free face (but always with a red lip), the average French girl doesn't possess a lot of products.

Part of the reason is apartment living, and they don't have the space, but also because they believe natural beauty is always best. That said, there are non-negotiables in their beauty regimes, and these five beauty buys will always have a space in their bathrooms.

1 - Great Hand Cream

A French girl will always have great hand cream, and pharmacies across the country are filled with every type and brand you can think of.

They use it several times a day ,and they tend to buy from home-grown brands like La Roche-Posay, Vichy, Fragonard, Nuxe and more. Be more like a French girl and start to use hand cream for better skin that looks and feels softer and healthier.

2 - A Chic Candle

Wellness is a big part of beauty in France, and what better way to treat yourself to some headspace than with a relaxing bath with a chic candle burning beside you, and maybe a glass of something chilled.

A French girl will buy the best because she deserves it, and brands like Cire Trudon and Carrieres Freres are hugely popular (but pricey), so she most likely will turn to Diptyque for her supply. Baies is the classic candle, and when it's empty she will store trinkets in it.

3 - Brilliant Moisturiser

The average French girl will do all her skincare shopping at the local pharmacy; that's the culture in France. For makeup, you go to a department or makeup store like Sephora or Marionnaud.

In her local chemist, she will find endless French brands to meet her needs, but one classic buy is Embryolisse, the multitasking cleanser, primer, moisturiser and makeup remover. She hasn't got much shelf space, so this is a brilliant and cult buy.

4 - Sophisticated Nail Colour

The French can be very picky when it comes to nail colour, and they aren't all that big on false nails or nail art, for that matter.

They will use a dark and sultry shade like Rouge Noir from Chanel, or a very basic milky nude. For the most part, that's about as far as they will go with regard to painting their nails. Strange, but true.

5 - The Ultimate Red Lipstick

Having a brilliant red lipstick seems to be de rigueur for a French girl, a part of her life much like having lunch or a lover. She will find her perfect shade at a young age, and stay with it for life.

Not for them lip liner and a lip brush, only a blurred and bitten look is the French way. It's never perfect, and it must look like you have just been kissed. She loves Chanel, Dior, Hermes and Clarins for a red lipstick.
