Neven Maguire's restaurant targeted by scammers

Neven Maguire's acclaimed restaurant has been targeted by scammers seeking to steal money from bookings.

MacNean House in Blacklion, Co. Cavan, said a that a fraudulent email was sent to guests asking them to pay and confirm their booking.

In a statement, MacNean House wrote: 'We have been made aware that some of our upcoming customers received an email requesting a payment via a link.' It said it would 'never take online payments for bookings'.

The scammers' email read: 'We have received your reservation, but in order to guarantee your requested accommodation, we kindly ask you to review and confirm the details below.'

It then asked customers to click a link that would allow them to enter their reservation number and subsequently confirm their booking. MacNean House has asked its upcoming guests to 'not click the link and kindly disregard it'.

'The issue appears to be connected to one of our third-party vendors, and we are looking into it,' the restaurant said. It noted that its team would 'continue to work to identify the source of our communication issue'.

MacNean House and Restaurant was contacted by the Irish Daily Mail for clarification on whether the issue has since been resolved.

The establishment was crowned the best restaurant in Ulster at the Irish Restaurant Awards last year, and Mr Maguire, 51, pictured, was honoured with an 'Outstanding Achievement Award' from the Irish Restaurant Awards in May.
