With Dublin being the home of Guinness, getting the accents right in the new Netflix series on the brewing family is essential to swing audiences here.

And it’s something actor Louis Partridge admits was a tall order. However, the Londoner said he was up to the task.

‘It was a little bit daunting, being a little bit of a fish out of water,’ Louis told Extra.ie. ‘But it did help listening to a lot of Irish accents.’

Of course, there are plenty of ways to bond with Irish people and learn the accents – and when you’re playing a member of the family behind the most famous stout in the world, it just makes sense to go for a few pints – something that Louis said he did.

‘Going out drinking with them was a good way to bond,’ he joked. ‘I’ve known a fair amount of Irish people in my time, but this was a real chance to get into the belly of the beast.’

Premiering on Thursday in Dublin’s Lighthouse Cinema, House Of Guinness follows the Guinness family after the passing of Benjamin Guinness, Arthur Guinness’s father.

Spanning 19th-century Dublin and New York, the series follows the dramatic fate of Benjamin’s four adult children – Arthur, Edward, Anne and Ben – while depicting a Dublin whose population became intertwined with the beverage.

Anthony Boyle takes on the role of Arthur Guinness with Louis Partridge as Edward Guinness and Fionn O’Shea as Benjamin Guinness, while James Norton brings to life Seán Rafferty.
