Maia Dunphy has spoken candidly about a childhood accident that left her with lasting facial trauma and a lifelong insecurity.
Sharing a screenshot of a message she received about her appearance from a fan, Maia revealed that she has lived with the effects of a serious injury since she was young.
The original message read: 'Saw you on Ireland AM this morning and always think you look almost perfect except your teeth are crooked and its so easy to get teeth fixed now so wondering why you don't?'

The message continued: 'Maybe you don't care, which is cool, but you would be Jennifer Connelly perfect if you got your teeth straight!! I mean this as a compliment!!! your still beautiful!!!'
Responding, Maia explained that her dental appearance is linked to significant injuries sustained in childhood. 'I know this stuff shouldn’t bother me, but I had a really bad accident as a kid. Broke my jaw, my nose and dislocated my palate. Really grim.'

She explained: 'As a result I can’t have my teeth properly straightened, have a lot of residual facial trauma, and it’s been a LIFELONG hang up! Cheers pal!'
People need to be more careful when they are messaging people online; in fact, maybe leave the backhanded compliments totally unsaid!
Maia is no stranger to receiving DMs about her life. She recently opened up about a message giving her 'advice' on her parenting.
The presenter shares her only child, Tom, with her ex-husband, Johnny Vegas, and in the past has stated that her ten-year-old is 'the main man in my life.'

Sending Maia a direct message, the lady in question, tried to begin her message softly, but unfortunately, it didn't exactly come across that way.
She addressed the presenter by stating, 'Hello Maia, you seem like a nice person and a good mum. I follow you on X as well. As a mum of three adult children, I would just like to offer you advice: avoid posting photos of your lovely boy. Try to hold back from commenting and interacting with randomers online.'
While Maia didn't post the full message in view, on social media, it was enough to get her annoyed.

Not one to hold back on her beliefs, she replied with the perfect response.'I prioritise him over everything, and we probably spend more time together than most mums and sons on account of our family logistics, but that's just the way it is. There isn't another option and I wouldn't change it for the world!'
Keeping calm, she addressed the issue of posting pictures of Tom online. 'I never shared images of him until he was about 7 or 8, when I was asked to find some kids for a charity photo, and he asked if he could be in it too, and I decided that was ok. So now I share a bit more of him. '
