Rhasidat Adeleke will miss the World Championships in Tokyo next month after the sprinter last night called a halt to her season.
In a statement posted alongside a black-and-white snap, Rhasidat said: ‘This season has tested me in more ways than I ever anticipated.
'Lingering injuries and continuous setbacks made it increasingly difficult to train and perform at the level I expect from myself.

‘Following yet another recent roadblock, I’m saddened to share that I’m unable to finish out this season.
'I’ll take this time to heal, recover and do what’s necessary so I can show up next season as my best self, mind and body. I’m so grateful to everyone that shows me unwavering support. It means the world.'
Rhasidat was inundated with support, with Athletics Ireland commenting a row of green hearts and fellow athlete Sophie Becker saying 'our queen, always.'
Rhasidat, 22, had shaped her training this year around the outdoor season, opting to skip the indoors circuit to focus on preparation for the World Championships, for which she had qualified in both 200m and 400m.

The women’s 4x400m team, who were agonisingly close to a bronze medal at last summer’s Olympics, are also qualified.
Rhasidat missed the National Championships at the start of this month, stating at the time that she was focused on ‘recovery following recent race exertions’.
