Sharon Horgan has delved into the powerful message behind Amanda Knox's story while sharing a new update of the drama.
The Bad Sisters creator plays Amanda's mother, Edda Mellas, in The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox and has shared her thoughts on how her story shines a light on how women are negatively portrayed in the media.
Commenting as she showcased a new trailer for the drama, Sharon said: 'Hope you can watch this.'

'It's inspired by the story of Amanda Knox, who was wrongfully convicted for the tragic murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher, and her journey to set herself free.
'If you've ever questioned the portrayal of women in the media, especially young women who dare to have a sexuality, then this will be eye-opening. At a time when the world is constantly dealing with the impact of misinformation, the show explores how bias shapes narratives.'

The series, which is being executive-produced by Amanda, sees her tell her story on screen on her terms following the release of her memoir and an appearance in an earlier Netflix documentary.
Now a mum, the 37-year-old was famously convicted alongside her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito of killing her housemate, Meredith Kercher, while studying abroad in Italy and sentenced to 26 years in prison.
They were freed on appeal in 2011 and subsequently exonerated by the Italian Supreme Court two years later. Rudy Guede was eventually charged with the crime and served 13 years in prison.
Both Amanda and her husband, Chris Robinson, are among the producers on the eight-part mini-series, which will air on Hulu and Disney+.

Playing the lead role in the series is Grace Van Patten, after Andie MacDowell's daughter, Margaret Qualley, who has also signed on to be an executive producer, along with Monica Lewinsky, was forced to drop out because of scheduling conflicts.
In the latest preview update, we get our first live look at Sharon in action as she cautions her daughter about returning back to the country where she was convicted.
'In order to move forward, I need to go back,' Amanda explains as the camera pans to her high-profile court case, but also rewinds to when she first arrived in Italy as a student.
'I had no idea that my dream was about to become a nightmare,' she says.
The trailer ramps up with the media and police making judgments about Amanda as her parents desperately try to proclaim her innocence.
It wraps up with Amanda saying: ' For 15years I've been defined by something I didn't do. Many people think they know my story. But now, finally, it's my turn to tell it.'
According to an announcement reported by IFTN, Sharon's role will be that of 'a desperate but optimistic mother.'
'Their deep bond is challenged by Amanda's imprisonment, but Edda's unwavering love for her daughter propels her as she fights for Amanda's life.'

An early release picture shows a distressed-looking Sharon as Edda fielding questions about her daughter during a press conference.
Hulu has also previously released a short teaser trailer that reimagines Amanda's arrest before jumping to emotional scenes of her in jail and of her attending court.
In the background, we hear: 'Many people think they know my story, but now it's my turn to tell it. '
This is US producer and writer, KJ Steinberg is also among the Executive Producers and told Entertainment Weekly: 'Monica Lewinsky and Amanda Knox were partnered on this before I ever was approached.
'I have such deep respect for both of them, and obviously, they have some common trauma.

'The commonality that they have that I see: "They're both extraordinary women, both brilliant, both resilient, and pretty miraculous, as far as I'm concerned.
'I don't know that I could have survived what either of them went through.

And they are both joyful people, despite everything, and very committed to changing the corrupt way that we look at, I think, especially young women in the media.
The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox premieres on Hulu on 20 August 2025.
