Emergency services, including police, paramedics, and the Air Ambulance, responded to the scene, described as 'harrowing', where two family members were found dead.

A third victim was airlifted to South West Acute Hospital but later died from their injuries. A man who was also critically injured is being treated at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

Ms Whyte, aged in her 40s, hailed from Co Clare, and worked as a veterinary surgeon. She and her children James and Sara were described as 'active and beloved' members of St Mary’s Maguiresbridge Gaelic Football Club and Lisbellaw St. Patrick’s Hurling Club.

Both sporting organisations have said they're 'working with the GAA at county, provincial and national level, to implement the Association’s critical incident protocols'.

Per the Irish Independent, Superintendent Robert McGowan, the local district commander, stated that the case is being treated as a possible triple murder and attempted suicide, and detectives are examining whether mental health could have played a role in the tragedy.

During a media briefing, he said the surviving individual is a male adult who has a 'limited footprint' with police, adding there's 'limited domestic history' involving the household.

Police believe the alarm was raised from inside the home. Superintendent McGowan said: 'The alarm was raised I believe by a phone call made from the house.'

The PSNI added that it's 'not anticipated at this stage that any further arrests will be made'.
