As Nate Robinson’s (Jurell Carter) funeral aired last week, fans of Emmerdale couldn’t help but ponder over something.

At the start of this year, the ITV soap aired a variety of flashforward clips teasing audience members with what’s ahead in 2025.

Today's top videos

One showed Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) tearful at a grave. At the time, many predicted that the grave would belong to Nate as around then, it still hadn’t been confirmed that the character was dead.

But following confirmation that John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) murdered Nate, everyone assumed that the flashforward scene of Cain would feature in the funeral episode.

The intriguing twist though? It didn’t. The audience saw Cain standing by Nate’s grave, but he wasn’t wearing the large coat from the flashforward.

This has left many fearing that the much-loved Dingle will face even more trauma before 2025 ends, as he deals with another death.

Taking to social media platform X, this fan pointed out: 'So tonight’s ep wasn’t Cain flash forward not wearing the big coat.’

Another wrote: ‘So the flash forward wasn’t at Nate’s grave as Cain is wearing a coat & we’ve still to see Mackenzie’s running through the woods flash forward as well – it’s taking a long time to play out.’

Other users of the platform have speculated that the grave might belong to Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) or Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb).

However, another theory floating around is that Cain will return to the grave in the colder months of the year, after discovering who really killed his son.

Meanwhile, some are still convinced the flashforward came from the day of Nate’s funeral, and that the scene was filmed last year, therefore creating a continuity error.
