What's it all about

Julia stars as Alma, a dedicated college professor who finds herself in an agonising situation when her best student, Maggie, comes to her with a serious complaint.

Maggie alleges that another professor, Hank, was inappropriate with her while walking home following a debate about different generational habits.

The accusation plunges Alma into a world of conflicting drama. Hank is one of her closest friends, and she struggles to imagine how he could have done something so wrong.

For his part, Hank has an explanation that might shed a different light on the motivation behind Maggie's accusation. At the same time, the student references Alma's 'past' when she tearfully tells her about that night, leaving Alma uncertain of what to think.

Is this a Gen Z excuse to cover up a rule-breaking offence, or was Maggie really assaulted?

Who is in it?

As well as Julila, as Alma Olsson, After The Hunt stars Ireland's adopted 'daughter' Ayo Edebiri as Maggie Price.

Andrew Garfield plays accused professor Hank Gibson with Chloe Sevigny and Boardwalk Empire's Michael Stuhlbargh also featuring.

Is there a trailer?

Yes. The first look trailer for After The Hunt dropped in July and is every bit as riveting as you'd expect.

It starts out with the aforementioned debate on generations with Hank insisting that Gen Z is 'scared of saying the wrong thing' to Maggie asking her, 'When did offending someone become the preeminent cardinal sin?' She hits back against the sweeping generalisation, and things take a heated turn.

The clip then cuts to another professor pointing out that Alma takes certain people under her wing because they worship her rather than for their merit, which prompts her to argue that Maggie is one of her most talented students. In the same conversation, she denies that Hank is obsessed with her, insisting that they are 'friends and always will be.'

Over drinks, Hank later asks if she's seen Maggie, who was a no-show for class, and the drama really gets going as the trailer jumps to the visibly upset student asking to speak with her, and she tells Alma that he 'crossed the line.'

'It's the right thing to do, isn't it? To tell someone and given your history,' she tells her, sending Alma spiralling. Things get even more out of hand as Hank later insists that he told Maggie that he suspected her of cheating.

From there, Maggie blasts the way the situation is being dealt with by a group of white people, 'making it about themselves' while Alma later confronts her over having feelings for her and as the clip wraps up, the tension threatens to engulf the college.

When is After The Hunt Out?

After The Hunt is slated for release in Irish cinemas from 17 October 2025.
