What a way to end the perfect holiday by getting engaged, and for Virgin Media presenter Ger Lynagh, her trip to the French Island of Île de Ré will certainly be one to remember.
One of the station's longest-running reporters and anchors (16 years to be exact, she tells us), Ger made her mark in the newsroom when the station was still known as TV3 and has reported on some of the biggest stories over the years.
However, this month it was all about spending time with her family, partner, Colm and their three-year-old son Jack. Little did she know that her partner had something secret planned for her.
Meeting at their local running club, the couple had been friends for years before they began dating. In March 2022, they welcomed their son, Jack.
Looking forward to a chilled-out holiday and some sun, they headed to the picturesque island of Île de Ré, but Ger had no idea what was about to happen.
Chatting to EVOKE, she told us, ' We were sitting outside our chalet, where we were staying, and I could not have expected less. I think I was shopping on the Zara sale at the time when he came out with it. I was totally taken by surprise, which was nice.'
Keeping the news under wraps for a few weeks, until they got the ring sorted, Ger spoke of the big day ahead.
Laughing, she said, 'We are a bit useless for planning things, but we are very excited, so hopefully we will get our act together and I don't think we will do a long engagement, we will do things pretty quickly, something low key in Ireland as opposed to abroad at some stage in the next year.'
For now, though, Ger and Colm are just taking it all in and enjoying their big news before they get down to looking at venues and putting a guest list together, but we know Jack will make the perfect page boy.
