The bank holiday is behind us, but there’s still plenty happening this weekend. With exam season in full swing, some families might be keeping things calm at home, while others just need to get out for a few hours...and that’s just the parents.

Cruinniú na nÓg, Ireland’s national day of free creativity for children and young people, returns with over 1,000 events happening across the country. From circus picnics and DJ sessions to film-making, theatre games and science workshops, this year’s line-up bursts with imagination.

Now in its eighth year as part of the Creative Ireland programme, the festival includes activities for all ages and abilities. Whether you’re jamming in Longford, crafting in Wicklow or building bugs in Kilkenny, it’s all free and all about getting involved.

Highlights include live music at Swords Castle, the 24-Hour Play Extravaganza in Leitrim, Rock the Block in Cork and the Big Dig in Carlow. Inclusive events also feature, like ASD-friendly music in Longford and Blooming Science in Mayo.

The Monaghan Tractor Pull and Truck Show returns to Clontibret for a weekend of roaring engines, live music and family fun. With pulling competitions, judged truck entries and prizes up for grabs, it’s a treat for motoring fans.

Families can enjoy a bouncy castle zone, sensory play area, food stalls and music from the Fuzzy Burgers and Looney Choons. Entry is €20 at the gate, kids go free, and all proceeds support local special needs charities in Monaghan.

Carnival of Science

Fitzgerald Park becomes a hub of discovery as the Cork Carnival of Science brings two free days of hands-on family fun to the city. Expect live shows, science-themed rides and interactive exhibits from over 40 organisations. Highlights include Mark the Science Guy, the Teddy Bear Hospital, giant bubbles, slime stations and the free Carnival Express train.

From bubbling beakers to build-your-own workshops and high-flying demos, there’s something for curious minds of all ages. With sensory-friendly zones, roaming performers and endless ways to explore, it’s one of Cork’s most inclusive and exciting family festivals. Just turn up and dive in.

Ballymoney Show

The Ballymoney Show returns for two days of rural tradition and family fun at the local showgrounds, hosted by the North Antrim Agricultural Association. A firm favourite with locals and visitors, the event brings together communities from across Ireland and Britain for a lively weekend in the countryside.

Visitors can enjoy livestock judging, pony shows, cookery demos, live music and over 100 stalls of food, crafts and local produce. There’s a dog show, football challenges and bonny baby competition. A true celebration of rural life.


UCD Festival

The UCD Festival returns to Belfield this Saturday with a packed programme of science, tech and creative discovery. Families can explore themed zones across the campus, featuring workshops, live experiments, music, dance and more. From self-driving tractors to VR labs, GAA games and a working farm, there’s plenty to explore.

A sensory-friendly programme runs all day, offering relaxed spaces and inclusive activities for neurodiverse families. Look out for storytelling, sensory play, a silent disco and calm zones to help every child feel welcome. Entry is free and open to all.
