Doing the Apple dance is out and self-reflection is in and it seems that everyone is taking part in a new viral trend that sees people reconnect with their younger selves.
Gone are the days of social media users confessing their darkest secrets under the guise of a 'we listen and we don't judge' confession as things have taken a sentimental turn.
You've probably seen posts popping up on TikTok and Instagram that start with the line 'I met my younger self for coffee today...' but what is it all about? Let us untangle the trend for you!
What is the trend?
@charleenmurphyy not well over the ‘I met my younger self for a coffee’ trend 😭💘 mine is minus the coffee xxx
♬ Sweet Heat Lightning - Gregory Alan Isakov
The latest trend is pretty self-explanatory and is very sweet. Quite simply, people are writing letters to their younger selves, imagining they are reuniting for a coffee and a chat.
The clip or post tends to start with the person writing 'I met my younger self for coffee' before they get into a comparison of how they used to feel and what they worried about compared to now.
Most people use a photo of themselves from now and a throwback picture to accompany their moving words and most posts are accompanied by the song Sweet Heat Lightning by Gregory Alan Isakov.

It often gets emotional
You might even find yourself tearing up at some of the clips as plenty of people leave it all on the table, confessing some heavy truths.
Lots of people have included how they used to be very shy and worried about how their career or love life would pan out in the trend, before giving words of advice from their current selves.
Who has taken part in the trend?
@annagcorkofficial I love this trend, but it did make me emotional 😭

Not only has the mental-health-focused trend been picked up by the masses, but there are also plenty of famous faces who have gotten in on the action.
Anna Geary took a shot at the trend, which she accompanied with a clip of her jogging up a hill. 'I met my younger self for coffee today. She arrived a few minutes late, so did I. She told me she got distracted trying to get "a few jobs" done before she left. I smiled. Some things never change,' she wrote.
'She plays sport, torn between ambition and self-doubt. I hug her & reassure her that she has reached the highest level, she just needs to back herself,' Anna went on. 'I tell her that "the talking" she used to get in trouble for at school, actually paves the way for a future career that she adores, in broadcasting and public speaking. But she spends a few years finding her way first,' the presenter penned.
Influencer Charleen Murphy has also joined in on the trend, writing about how younger her wouldn't believe how far her blog had come.

'She tells me about the blog she started and deleted because she was embarrassed and afraid of what people would say, I tell her how it became my full-time job,' she wrote.
'She just went through her first breakup, I told her I was in love and whispered a name she doesn't know yet across the table,' Charleen added.
Jess Redden also took part in the trend, writing a heartfelt message to her rugby star hubby Rob Kearney in the process.
'I ordered a coffee and she ordered two. She said she was tired and burnt out. I told her she would learn to slow down one day and it would be the best lesson she ever learned.
'I told her it was all thanks to the man she was falling in love with.' Swoon!

The trend even left Holly Carpenter in floods of tears. 'I started making one of those "I met my younger self for coffee.." videos and ended up making myself cry. Why am I like this?' she joked.
It's good to know we aren't the only ones tearing up over the recent trend!
