Dave Kearney and his wife Becca Mehigan had a huge 2024, jetting off to start a new adventure in America and finding out they were going to become parents.
The couple, who tied the knot in 2023, left Ireland in January 2024 with their adorable dog and are now well settled into their new lives in Chicago.
2025 is also shaping up to be a big one for the duo as their little boy Zach joined the family just after Christmas. So, what do we know about Becca? Here's everything you need to know!
Background
Becca values her fitness just like her sports star other half since she has been into yoga for years now. Not only does she have a real grá for the practice, Becca is also a qualified yoga teacher with a qualification from reformation.ie.
Since she's now part of a well-known family in Ireland, the Kearneys, it's worth mentioning that she has a famous relative of her own - Doireann Garrihy's husband Mark Mehigan is her cousin!
Career
While Becca is a qualified yoga teacher, her talents don't end there, she also takes immense interest in the mindful aspect of the practice. In fact, Becca is a Science Master's student studying Mindfulness Interventions at UCD in Dublin.
But beyond her love of all things well-being, in the past, she has worked in the media industry with Lovin' Media Group, 98FM and Spin 1038. So if Dave is looking to branch into either of those industries to start a new chapter after his rugby career, no doubt she'll be an excellent first point of contact.
Relationship
After meeting through mutual friends, Becca and Dave went public with their relationship in March 2019 and since then they have kept a pretty low profile, valuing their private lives.
On the 27th of January 2022, the couple announced their engagement with a sweet carousel of gorgeous celebration pics, including a shot of Becca on Dave's knee - so cute! A source even shared with EVOKE that Dave was the traditional gentleman, getting down on one knee to pop the question.
The couple owns a little fur baby together too - an adorable dog called Kali whom they welcomed on Friday, July 2nd 2021.
Sister, sister
When the couple got engaged, both families were absolutely delighted over the joyful news, especially Becca's new sister-in-law Jess Redden who is married to Dave's brother, Rob.
As news of their engagement broke, Jess celebrated the news with the couple by posting a snap of herself and Becca with the caption, 'NEW SISTA'.
In April 2022, the rugby WAGS got together to have a gas night out together for Becca's hen do complete with a cardboard cut-out of her hubby-to-be.
On Jess and Rob's wedding day in December 2021, Becca and Dave were front and centre to celebrate the newlyweds as they had the weekend of a lifetime.
Saying 'I do'
Though the couple has been very private about their whole relationship, when it comes to walking down the aisle sometimes it can be a bit more difficult to contain your excitement. Sharing a few sweet snaps from their nuptials on her social media Becca simply wrote: 'Married my best friend today.'
If that wasn't enough to melt your heart the fact they were joined by their fur baby, boxer dog Kali, as they beamed in the glorious sunshine should be enough!
For their civil ceremony, Becca opted for a chic white suit, featuring fabulous bell-bottom flares and a box jacket with a white sleeveless top underneath. She accessoried the look with fun white cats-eyes shades for the day that was in it.
Dave didn't scrub up too badly either- he looked very dapper in a well-tailored navy suit with a white open-neck shirt. Kali the dog proudly followed in her parent's fashion footsteps, sporting a bow around her neck as she watched her humans say their 'I do's.
Saying I Do round two
Becca and Dave celebrated their nuptials in style in Portugal in June 2023. Photos of the wedding party look as if they could have come straight out of a fashion magazine.
Becca looked every bit the blushing bride on her big day as she opted for a satin strapless gown that showed off her incredible figure and must have kept her cool in the hot sun.
The dress was classic and simple, avoiding all the beads and lace we're used to seeing, in favour of a more clean-cut style that will never fall out of fashion.
Moving Stateside
The rugby star announced in May 2023 that he had signed with the Chicago Hounds after 14 years with Leinster and in January 2024 Becca and Dave packed their bags and headed Stateside.
'Let the adventure begin… Chicago and a snowstorm with highs of -16 await!' wrote Becca alongside a picture of them surrounded by cases.
Baby makes three
Becca and Dave announced they were expecting in August 2024 in a snap showing Becca at a Chicago Cubs game holding a mini version of the striped kit.
Their son Zach was born on December 28, with Becca saying: ' Carrying you over the past 9 months has been the greatest privilege of my life.
'Having you join us in the world is a love and excitement that words cannot describe. We love you so much.'
