Though we're eagerly awaiting the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special, we're experienced mixed emotions as it marks the end of an era.

But just because it's the end of the sitcom, which has graced us with its hilarity since 2008, the cast aren't quite finished rinsing their characters for all they're worth.

Show creators Ruth Jones and James Corden have confirmed Gavin & Stacey will return, just not in the way you'd expect...

James and Ruth have decided to co-pen a new book, titled Gavin Met Stacey and Everything in Between: A Story of Love and Friendship.

The book, set for release in autumn 2025, will chart how the friends turned their modest comedy series into a cultural phenomenon.

James and Ruth said: 'We're so excited to be sharing the story behind the story of Gavin and Stacey. The show has played a huge part in our twenty-five-year friendship and we hope this book will give readers a fresh insight into how it all came about.'

Per the publisher, the upcoming book will feature never-before-heard stories and BTS gossip. Score! It will also see James and Ruth take a deep dive into facing rejection, overcoming obstacles and eventually enjoying immense success.

We'll be bidding our beloved Gavin, Stacey, Smithy and Nessa a final farewell on December 25 as the Christmas special airs, 16 years after the show first aired in 2008.

It'll be a bittersweet one as we can't wait to have them back on our screens after a five-year hiatus, but we're not quite ready to let them go.

Unfortunately, both James and Ruth have concretely said that Gavin and Stacey will not return after Christmas Day 2024.

During her appearance on BBC Radio 2’s breakfast show, Ruth told host Zoe Ball: 'It's strange, James and I have always felt, [the characters] really do exist. It's not like they're dying, well... Watch the final.'

'We feel like they still exist, for us, they're carrying on living their lives in Barry, or in Billericay it's just that we are not party to what goes on in their life anymore.'

To tell you the truth, we're totally gutted!
