The Cuilcagh mountain walk, otherwise known as the Stairway to Heaven, is the perfect walk for those of us who want to feel like we exercised without all the effort. The walk itself can take between 3-5 hours, but believe me, the views are worth every minute.

It's an ideal walk to get some fresh air at this time of year as you make your way through the mountains on a wooden walkway.

On a sunny day, there's no better walk than around the cliffs of Howth. The seaside town in north Dublin is home to trails along the cliffs' edge for walkers wanting some fresh sea air.

There are a number of trails you can take, the longest being 3 hours, so be sure to pack a thermos of tea or coffee to keep you going. This walk is another one for the less experienced.

Although it warns you to wear proper footwear, the Ballycotton Cliff walk is appropriate for all ages and fitness levels. The stunning views of meadows, the sea and a lighthouse make this walk perfect for a family day out.

A full round trip should take you no more than 3 hours max, so it's definitely a family-friendly option.

Diamond Hill - Co Galway

If you fancy a trip towards Letterfrack, then it is necessary to walk up Diamond Hill. The trail is boarded so safely for everyone and gives stunning views of Western Connemara.

The most popular trail will take just 2.5 hours, so there's no excuse not to give it a go and on a bright day, the views are spectacular.

Spinc walk in Glendalough, Co Wicklow

The famed Spinc walk in Glendalough has been chosen as the winning walk on the list of Top Ten Trails for 2024 in the Reader's Choice Awards.

The trail, which takes just over three hours to complete, takes in the Poulanass Waterfall as well as the upper and lower lakes. Voters ranked the 'amazing views' and 'beautiful trail' as reasons for it being the top choice of trail - sounds like a stunning day out.

There are no excuses to sit at home this weekend!
